Gavaghan The name Gavaghan in Ireland is derived from the native Gaelic O'Gaibhtheachain Sept that is derived from a word meaning 'anxious'. This Sept was located in County Mayo in the West of the country. Gavaghan is found in Mayo and Roscommon. There are a number of variants including Gaughan, Gaugan, Guihen, O'Gaughan and Gahan.
