Lavin The Irish name Lavin is derived from two native Gaelic Septs, O'Laimhin and O'Lamhain, both taken from a Gaelic word meaning 'ruler'. The main Septs were located in County Roscommon in the midlands of the country and it is here that the majority of descendants can still be found.
