McHugh The Irish name McHugh is derived from the native Gaelci MacAodha Sept of which there were a number of different anglicized names. The main Septs who used McHugh as the anglicized versions of their name were based in County Galway, near Tuam, in Connemara and in County Donegal in the West of Ulster.
