Examples of such are a Richard Davi, of Suffolk, England, who was recorded in the 'Hundred Rolls' in the year 1273. A Johannes Davis was recorded in the 'Poll tax of the West Riding Of Yorkshire' in the year 1379. A John Davyson and Elizabeth Bella were granted a marriage license, in London, in the year 1526 and a Meg Davy was recorded in Aberdeen, Scotland, in the year 1408. In Ireland they were a branch of the famous Burkes of Connaught and in the sixteenth century owned a large area of County Galway known as MacDavies Country.The Davies family crest (or coat of arms) came into existence many centuries ago.
