The Irish names Dowd and Doud are derived from the native Gaelic O'Dubhda Septs that were located in Counties Sligo and Mayo. Smaller Septs dispersed to Kerry where they are now known as Doody and to Derry where they became Duddy. Dodd and O'Dowda are other variants of this name that can still be mostly found in the Connaught Counties.
