McDonnell The name McDonnell in Ireland is one of the hundred most frequently found and is derived from the Gaelic MacDomhnaill Sept of Ulster or from Scottish immigrants of the same name who arrived in the thirteenth century. Another distinct Sept were located in County Clare in the West of the country and it is in Clare, Antrim and Fermanagh that the majority of descendants can still be found.
