Clarke The names Clery and Clarke in Ireland have the same origin, being derived from the native Gaelic Sept O'Cleirigh meaning 'clerk'. The Sept was initially located in County Galway but soon dispersed to other parts of the country especially Counties Donegal and Dublin where the majority of descendants can still be found.
